Grimly accurate, I'm afraid. Add in personal factors related to Trump: his aversion to being seen as a loser, his casino-style gambling, his inability to listen, his belief he's always the smartest guy in the room, and it doesn't bode well. Plus look at the goons who surround him, from his son-in-law to Hegseth to Miller. Such personalities are not driven by prudence, to state the obvious.

What a tragedy we couldn't keep the republic.

There was never a chance of "the straits being re opened in time to prevent disaster", this was never a desired occurrence by those who quite deliberately CAUSED a disaster (it's only a disaster for those who are not US or Israeli oligarchs or similarly "connected" & insulated billionaires).

What was planned (and so far has been accomplished) by shutting down shipping of petrochemicals, fixed nitrogen and sulfur through the straits of Hormuz is quite different than the MSM based assumptions on what constitutes "winning" and "losing".

The USA threw a monkey wrench into several vital supply lines for 2/3 of the world's populations economies, drove up US crude oil price by 50% (so far), increased US LNG prices by 50% to 250% depending on markets, guaranteed the USA a seller's market for LNG, light crude oil, refined hydrocarbons & most staple agricultural products dependant on man made fixed nitrogen fertilizers, plus increased price for US sourced sulfur. They also drove a LOT of investments from the Gulf states to "safe" US Treasury bonds.

And wherever they drove some business into bankruptcy with all of that, they made a tasty meal for our big investment bankers, buying up the failed concerns assets, concentrating wealth still further.

This isn't a crisis for billionaires, it's a great opportunity.
