We have evolved enough to understand that government has to be accountable to the entire society, if only to prevent civil wars and revolutions, that it works best as a public utility.

When the medium enabling markets is a player in those markets, the rest are tenant farmers to the banks. So rather than resources being allocated where they would be most productive, increasing amounts are siphoned off to feed large egos.
Now obviously bankers are not the only oligarchs, but they do enable much of the wastage.
For one thing, money functions as a contract, so storing the asset side of the ledger requires a debt on the other side, so not only is much economic activity designed to generate debt, but the one thing the flunkies allowed in DC are best at, is running up public debt.
As the saying goes, "The real money is in bonds." The secret sauce of capitalism is public debt backing private wealth. Otherwise this value would have to be more deeply invested in creating actual value, say more healthy societies, not financial instruments.
Now all large movements need some focus and for various reasons, much of that focus has centered on Israel.
The problem this creates is that there is still no brilliant strategy. All that wealth and power is ultimately being focused on rebuilding some Iron Age temple and Bibi Netanyahu's ego.
