Patrick, I've already told you that this has to be the most depressing of your pieces. But let me add to that. It's very clear that Washington is rotten to the core and it is populated by incompetents as you've pointed out. I suspect that things will be coming to a head soon.
One. The US is behind (ultimately) this Adrian Zenz bozo who is behind the whole genocide of Uigers bullshit etc and the effort to stubborn the BCI who, after decades of working with China suddenly decided that the Uigers were just too much. Right. The Chinese aren't going to be fooled. And they are quick learners. At least one cooperative has sued Zenz.
Two, Biden has doubled down on the attack on China's technology sector. Mistake. Who has the world's fastest super computer? I'll let you guess (but it's not the US) and they built it with zero US components. Do you seriously think it will take the Chinese all that long to match the capabilities of US chip forges?
Three, the US is (surprise) breaking its promise to honor the one China policy of China. This could be the most important. The Chinese will be willing to fight over this and the US seems to have forgotten how hard it is to fight in someone else's back yard.
Four, not satisfied with China we need to piss off Russia some more. So we stage this Navalny Noh play. Which has, of course, been good for at least one round of sanctions (and, in my opinion broke Russia's attachment to Europe). And that's OK I guess. Pretty obvious but hey....
Five. We're going to sanction Russia again for this ridiculous claim of election interference. Russia is all primed to respond. As I understand it, the Russians are thinking of going beyond tit-for=tat which would probably be reasonable considering that they withdrew their ambassador.
According to the Treasury Dept, US debt is $28T and our GDP is $20T Or in layman's terms the US has a debt to equity ratio of 0.71 which isn't real good for a country (you only have 75 cents for every $ of debt)
Are you joking?! Trump's foreign policy was a failure to be sure. The people he surrounded himself with, whether by choice or not, undermined any attempt he made to advance diplomacy and he pardoned war criminals who should be in jail. But it is Democrats who spent the past four years rehabilitating and empowering the neocons. Democrats have embraced the worst of the neocons, including of course George W. Bush himself.

Why does this surprise you.
Trump failed to stand up to the neocons, and pretty much failed at everything else.
Now they are back, and in full control.

That was sort of my point.
